Lucy the dog, star of Soda Pictures titles Wendy and Lucy and Old Joy has nabbed herself a nomination in this years’ prestigious Fido Awards, dubbed the Canine Oscars, for her role as Lucy in Wendy and Lucy.
Lucy falls under the Mutt Moment category- “For a single stand-out cinematic canine moment” and faces stiff competition from other four-legged thesps from Fishtank, Let the Right One In and Sleep Furiously.

Soda Pictures are delighted to announce our fantastic coup of latest acquisitions from this years’ Toronto Film Festival. Two of which, you will be fortunate enough to be able to see at this years’ London Film Festival.

GIRL ON THE TRAIN (LA FILLE DU RER) is the complex drama from veteran French auteur André Téchiné, starring Emilie Dequenne and Catherine Deneuve. Dequenne stars as a young woman who claims that she was a victim of an anti-Semitic attack that creates a media news sensation. Deneuve stars as her mother and Michel Blanc stars as the attorney set to represent her.
Soda Pictures have previously worked with Téchiné on STRAYED and with Catherine Deneuve on JE VEUX VOIR and are delighted to be working again alongside such established talent that we have enjoyed previous success with.

STORM is a political thriller inspired by the Serbian War crimes trials, starring Kerry Fox as a prosecutor in The Hague who tries to persuade a witness, a Bosnian woman living in Berlin (Anamaria Marinca), to come to the court to give evidence against a suspected Serbian war criminal.
STORM is the first major international project of director Hans-Christian Schmid, with whom Soda Pictures enjoyed previous success with the acclaimed REQUIEM.

MAMMOTH is the first English language feature of celebrated Swedish director Lukas Moodysson. Starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Michelle Williams as a successful New York couple in this impressive multi-narrative drama.
Mammoth will receive a National theatrical release in Spring 2010.
Continuing in our quest to bring the finest in independent and world cinema to a wider audience, Soda Pictures have teamed up with Genesis Cinema to bring you Soda Stream, a two month run of selected titles from the Soda Pictures archive to be screened in Whitechapel’s iconic, independent Genesis cinema.

A season of the very best in independent cinema from around the globe.
The season will provide you with an opportunity to catch up on films you may have missed as well as discovering new cinematic gems. From Central America through Uruguay, past Mexico and on to Turkey, Germany and France. Soda Stream will take you on an unforgettable cinematic journey. Each screening will be introduced by an industry professional and there will be an opportunity to discuss and debate the film in the bar afterward.
The first season will run from Wednesday October 7th, kicking off with Kelly Reichardt’s poetic Wendy and Lucy starring Michelle Williams and will conclude with an exclusive, secret, preview screening.
Screenings will start at 18:30 and tickets will cost £4.

As you may be aware come July 4th Guy Maddin’s My Winnipeg will be winging its way into cinemas care of Soda, but also launching today and inspired by the release is the film making competition ‘Your Winnipeg‘.

Having just seen the post over on the Guardian blog today celebrating Mike Leigh’s Naked as one of the most under-rated British films that is unavailable on DVD - we thought we’d take the time to quickly highlight that thankfully Naked will be available soon (I’m told April 7th-ish) as part of a general re-issue of Film 4’s back catalogue (similar to the recent Ken Loach box set), the box set includes other Leigh titles currently not available on DVD (including Bleak Moments- c/o Soda Pictures’ ‘Soda Vintage’ label). I personally will be taking the opportunity to see the film that Ben Myers writes is ” it is Mike Leigh’s finest work and arguably the best British film in recent history”. (more…)

Soda’s next theatrical release Someone Else will be hitting screens across London tomorrow!

Someone Else is a Woody Allen-esque British comedy starring Stephen Mangan from first time British director Col Spector. If you want to find out more on the film then you can visit the film’s page on the Soda site here and the trailer is up and running here .
On Friday the 7th of September there will be an exclusive introduction to the film by the lovely Col Spector (writer director) followed at 18:30 at the Cineworld Haymarket.
