In Scotland babies come from kissing frogs
Melanie’s motivation;
This charming portrait, is a lovely idea. Are there many frogs in Scotland? I’m from Australia and did not know that to be the case! The winner is also painstakingly and lovingly created in the same ‘claymation’ style as Mary and Max, - it shows a real enjoyment of the story and style of the film. Congratulations and all the best with your future creations. - Melanie Coombs, Producer Mary and Max
The entries have made us smirk, smile and laugh a lot in the office, and there has been a lot of time and effort invested by talented people. We will be posting up some of our favourites in the following days.
Mary & Max is released on DVD on January 24 - with some lovely extras including a making of, the audition, animatics, AND the Academy Award winning short Harvie Krumpet.
Spanning 20 years and 2 continents, MARY & MAX tells of a pen-pal relationship between two very different people: Mary Dinkle (Toni Collette), a chubby, lonely 8-year-old living in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia; and Max Horovitz (Philip Seymour Hoffman), a severely obese, 44-year-old Jewish man with Asperger’s Syndrome living in the chaos of New York city. It explores a bond that survives much more than the average friendship’s ups-and-downs.
