Soda Pictures are delighted to announce our fantastic coup of latest acquisitions from this years’ Toronto Film Festival. Two of which, you will be fortunate enough to be able to see at this years’ London Film Festival.

GIRL ON THE TRAIN (LA FILLE DU RER) is the complex drama from veteran French auteur André Téchiné, starring Emilie Dequenne and Catherine Deneuve. Dequenne stars as a young woman who claims that she was a victim of an anti-Semitic attack that creates a media news sensation. Deneuve stars as her mother and Michel Blanc stars as the attorney set to represent her.
Soda Pictures have previously worked with Téchiné on STRAYED and with Catherine Deneuve on JE VEUX VOIR and are delighted to be working again alongside such established talent that we have enjoyed previous success with.

STORM is a political thriller inspired by the Serbian War crimes trials, starring Kerry Fox as a prosecutor in The Hague who tries to persuade a witness, a Bosnian woman living in Berlin (Anamaria Marinca), to come to the court to give evidence against a suspected Serbian war criminal.
STORM is the first major international project of director Hans-Christian Schmid, with whom Soda Pictures enjoyed previous success with the acclaimed REQUIEM.

It only feels like it was yesterday that I was saying “goodness is it LFF time already?” and here I am saying it again as today saw the official press launch of the London Film Festival.

This year we’re pleased to have a mighty Soda haul (being a small distributor) of 5 films screening at the festival, Modern Life, Home, Wonderful Town, Better Things and Wendy & Lucy (if you want to read more about the films then I’ll be posting our official press release here shortly).
Other than preaching to you about how you should check out all the fantastic Soda films at the festival we thought it might be nice to let you know what other non-Soda films coming up at the festival had caught our eye… (more…)

Just a quick note to say that Frances’ second Locarno dispatch is now up online over at the Film in Focus site. I have it on good authority that her third and final post should be up as soon as she has finshed crossing her t’s and dotting the lower case j’s.

Following on from its world premiere in Cannes in May, last Sunday Better Things received its UK premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

It was a sell out event with cast & crew in full force at the Cameo Cinema and director Duane Hopkins on hand for a Q&A after the screening. Even the weather seemed to make way for the film as the rain clouds from the night before began to scarper. So far we’ve been thrilled by the positive response of the audience and press after the screening.

With ‘Critics Week’ at this year’s Cannes announced yesterday we are happy to reveal that upcoming Soda release ‘Better Things’ from British director Duane Hopkins is included in the line up.

Variety have commented on Duane’s debut feature as a “frosh (sic) youth drama” (I’m assuming they were aiming for fresh). Unless you’re in Cannes this year then you’ll have to wait till late 2008 when the film will be released in the UK. In the meantime however you can catch some of Duane’s award winning shorts over on the BBC film networks website…

So here’s my first attempt for the blog. I have been asked by Marie to write about Toronto, so…
First an obligatory photo of the CN tower - I think this is the closest I got to it.
