Gyllenhaal & Maguire rumours for Brothers remake

Rumour has it (care of Rotten Tomatoes and Variety) that Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire have taken a fancy to the Hollywood remake of Susanne Bier’s Brothers directed by Jim Sheridan- filling the roles of Ulrich Thomsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas.

Ulrich Thomsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas the original Brothers

I must confess I’ve always subconsciously compared the two in a sibling-esque fashion, and would be intrigued to witness this anomaly on the big screen.

In the meantime I urge those of you who haven’t yet to check out the original Brothers, so we can all be ready to casually drop the line “yeah it was good, but personally I prefer the original”.

Susanne Bier’s latest film Things We Lost in the Fire is set to play at this years Times BFI 51st London Film Festival and the academy award nominated After the Wedding is currently available to own on DVD.

It’s Bier remake a go go, as Zach Braff is having a go at Open Hearts (see quite old post on Variety). And I have concerns about the fact he is also re-writing it - the world could really do without another film like Garden State (in fact it could do with out Garden State completely - oh to be able to re-write film history).
