Activision First Light Movie Awards (Aflima) 09
Soda Fizz likes an awards ceremony or two which is how we found ourselves at the Odeon Leicester Square yesterday afternoon for ‘the Activision First Light Movie Awards’ 2009 (hereby to be know as …AFLIMA…..not that Fizz can take credit for this witty acronym, we leave that to co-host of the awards Rick Edwards).

What’s this you say? First Light has not been hiding under a bushel but helping to fund filmmakers aged between five and 19 to write, produce, design and direct their movies. To this date that’s about 12,000 movies. And today was the day the winners were announced in categories ranging from best animation to best screenplay. The atmosphere was barking, whipped up into a frenzy by the compère who gave instructions on how to greet a nomination ENJOY IT! How to react to a nomination ENJOY IT! And how to have a good time DAY OFF SCHOOL! ENJOY IT!
AFLIMA did themselves proud with the presenters, Danny Boyle, Ralf Little, Michael Sheen, Jason Isaac and Sienna Miller to name but a few. But naturally the stars were the filmmakers themselves who, without exception, gave the best thank you speeches, short, concise and heartfelt. My personal favourite being the one to the teacher ‘ for thanking them get down to London on the train’. Which just goes to show how humble the next generation of filmmakers are.
