And the award goes to…
Dear duo of readers.
Its seemingly not a natural choice for a small-ish film distributor
specialising in independent talent driven works to attend a ceremony
celebrating celluloid but without actually using the word film in the title
– National Movie Awards, yes we are talking about you, but in the spirit of
balance and even, dare we mention the word, popularity, the intrepid Soda
team set forth last night for an evening of much whooping and cheering as
the nation spoke and selected their best films from the last year. The 2010 National Movie Awards did include a category called ‘The Most Anticipated
Movie of the Summer’ which as a droll Aaron Johnson pointed out is a rare
award when presented to a film not even out yet but then that’s what the
night was about; not artistic credibility or critical opinion but what
audiences are really excited about and there were two clear winners; Harry
Potter and the Twilight series. The audience were invited to cheer very
loudly when they saw something on the screen that they really liked and
judging by the reaction a torso shot of Robert Pattison received this man
must be the most popular in Britain, an opinion backed up by indeed winning
best performance of the year. Sadly he wasn’t there to receive it in person
but plenty of other celebrities attended. We did have a 13 year old with us,
purely for credibility purposes so we’d know when to shout loudest and she
got very excited when Kylie was on stage as well as the much younger looking
in real life than on screen Peter Facinelli but, shockingly, to those much
older only had a passing clue of who Tom Cruise is. Does Tom Cruise age?
Discuss.
It was a serious amount of fun (or if you are 13, awesome) and here are our
own Soda awards.
Award for most charming man: Peter Facinelli, for being quite delightful,
friendly and genuine (admittedly we came to this conclusion based on a
super-short exchange)
Award for most dapper person: Ron Livingston and in case there is any doubt,
see photo with the equally lovely Faith Taylor

Award for most radiant: Gwynnie, we actually love you.
Award for best dogging joke: James Corden that’s even though someone did have
to explain the reference to me.
